Gray Work: Confessions Of An American Paramilitary Spy

The first ever, first-person story of America's private, paramilitary contractors at work around the world-from a man who performed these missions himself and has decades of stories to tell. This is a fascinating tale-and potentially the first-to describe the work of American contractors, men who run highly dangerous missions deep inside foreign countries on the brink of war. It will lift the veil and detail the ultimate danger and risk of paramilitary operations (both officially government-sanctioned and not) and show us in very intimate terms exactly what private soldiers do when the government can't act or take public responsibility. GRAY WORK combines covert military intelligence with boots-on-the-ground realism, following Jamie Smith through his CIA training and work as a spy in the State Department, to his co-founding of Blackwater following 9/11, to his decision to leave that company. As the founder and director of Blackwater Security, Smith's initial vision has undeniably shaped and transformed a decade of war. He argues that this gray area-and its warriors who occupy the controversial space between public and private-has become an indispensable element of the modern battlefield.

Spyderco Dog Tag Folder

Spyderco is known for making solid knives. With the Dog Tag Folder they really went outside the box from their typical designs. The single-sided handle is solid titanium and the overall design is an accurate replica of the shape and size of a military dog tag. The blade is a stainless steel with a stonewashed finish and has the Spyderco trademark round hole for easy opening. The light weight and compact design make it a pretty sweet neck knife. The color we prefer is the Black but it also comes in a Blue/Green.

FLIR ThermoSight R-Series Thermal Night Vision Scope

This is not the first time we have covered a FLIR product. The R-Series scope from FLIR is the world's first line of thermal night vision rifle scopes starting under $3500.00. You just can't find another thermal scope in that price point! Unlike your typical night vision scope that detects light the R-Series detects heat energy. That means you could spot a varmint or predator in zero light. The body heat of the intended target will glow bright in the scope. We have included a video for your viewing pleasure.

goTenna

The reality is that cell service is not always the most reliable. Think sporting events. You are in a stadium full of people and you try and text out a picture of the game. More often than not that text isn't going to make it to the intended recipient. The goTenna allows you to communicate without cell towers, wifi, or satellites. So when you are off the grid,in the backcountry,or in a location where the network is bogged down you can remain connected. There is a catch though... The goTenna is sold in pairs and will only communicate with someone else that has a goTenna connected to their phone. The goTenna is paired with your phone wirelessly using Bluetooth. Then you use their free app to type out text messages or share your location on a map. The range is 1 to 6 miles and in "ideal conditions" could be as much as 50 miles. The design is compact, lightweight, and comes with a built in strap to attach it to a pack or gear. For your viewing pleasure we have included a video.

James The Chapter Titanium + Stainless Pocket Knife

James does not mass produce several different styles of knives. In fact they produce one, The Chapter, and they do it very well. The Chapter is definitely on the higher end for a pocket knife but if cheap is what you are looking for go to your local Walmart and pick up a mass produced Gerber for 10 bucks. The Chapter comes with titanium scales, a semi-stainless steel blade, and a simple frame construction with very few parts. The green thumb stud is also a nice touch.

Orion Coolers

Orion Coolers(Jackson Kayak) has decided to enter an already crowded high end cooler market but these coolers will compete with the best of them. There are several unique features that differentiate the Orion line of coolers from the other guys. The standing pad on the lid of the cooler is standard, there are 6 tie down points, the tie down points on the corners double as bottle openers, and last but not least the Orion Coolers feature YakAttack accessory mounts. These accessory mounts allow you to attach rod holders, cup holders, phone holders, GPS, or fish finders without interfering with opening and closing the cooler. Currently they come in 4 different colors and 4 different sizes. Orion Coolers are made in the USA by Jackson Kayak. If you are not familiar with Jackson they have been putting out quality kayaks since 2003. We have included a video for your viewing pleasure.

Rossi Circuit Judge

First there was the "Judge" then came the "Circuit Judge". Rossi has taken the successful revolver and made it into a rifle extending its range for hunting and shooting. Without having to switch the barrel you are able to fire .410 GA. 3-inch Magnum shotshells, .410 GA. 2.5-inch shotshells and .45 Colt ammunition. Our personal preference is the tactical black synthetic stock version. For your viewing pleasure we have included a video of Jeff Quinn from gunblast.com. Yeah that beard is braided! Respect.

Hide and Seek: The Architecture of Cabins and Hideouts

Hide and Seek: The Architecture of Cabins and Hideouts is not a building guide but more so a coffee table picture book on the architecture of cabins. Although our idea of a cabin does not align with many of the cabins in this book it is packed with amazing pictures and ideas to implement when building a cabin. The cabins and hide-outs in the book are unique and very expensive but the ideas and photography are something we can respect. If you are looking more for a building guide we recommend you look here.
