Delorme came out with the InReach a few years back. The original InReach pairs with your smartphone and allows you to send messages via satellite in the backcountry or off the grid. The InReach SE (Screen Edition) is due out at the end of April and there is no need to pair it to another device because it has a built in screen. From the screen you can send and receive messages outside of cell range, trigger an SOS, and turn on tracking that records your coordinates. 100% global coverage all the time. The SE is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant. It also comes with a long lasting rechargeable lithium battery.
