If you all can believe this. I owned three of the 22lr pen guns just after the name change to “Stinger” pistol. It originally was called a “Pen Gun” and as such, California already had a law on the books stating that “Pen Guns” were illegal. So not by configuration, but by name only was the original copy of this gun illegal in California. Quickly the manufacturer (I think Braverman by that time???) changed the official name of the pistol to the now familiar “Stinger Pistol” and as such for the briefest moments of time (approximately three months total) they were legal to order (Had my FFL by the way), own and possess. An absolute blast to shoot. I didn’t like the fact that it was cocked and not really locked when loading a shell into the barrel and subsequently screwing the barrel into place. Bad time for an AD let me tell you. (no I didn’t have one go off on me). Well my real job at a Nuclear Power Plant was going great and I got paranoid with all of the background checks and investigations on my position (High security ranking type of thing) that I thought these might not be the pistols for an off duty officer at the range to find you with and sold them all out of state through other FFL’s. Wish I’d of had more nerve. I bought them for 100 bucks apiece directly from the manufacturer. No telling what they’d go for now???
